Swim Test for All Campers
- On your campers 1st day, they will be asked to complete a swim test. There will be a certified lifeguard in the water as well as at the side of the pool during the swim test to assist any camper if they appear to be struggling during the swim test.
- Swim test… Completed 1 camper at a time…
- Without goggles the camper will jump into deep area of the pool
- Swim away from wall a distance of 8 feet
- Roll over and float on their back for 10 seconds; head, hips and toes at the surface of the water
- Roll onto their stomach and then swim back to the side of pool; 8 feet
- Pull themselves out of the water without the use of the ladder or stairs
- If they are not able to complete these skills efficiently, they will need to wear a life vest during free swim time. A swimmer can request to be tested again on subsequent days if they so desire.
- Life vests are not used during swim lessons
Other swim time questions:
Does my child have to swim?
Please prepare your child to swim every day. We strongly encourage all campers to participate in the swim time.
What happens if my child does not want to take the swim test?
If a camper chooses not to take a swim test, they must always wear a swim vest during swim time.
If I don’t want my child to swim what other activities are offered during that time?
We encourage all campers to play in the pool daily. We do not plan other activities for campers that choose not to swim. They will be asked to sit quietly at the tables on the pool deck while the other campers are in the pool.
Do you provide lifevests for the campers who can not swim?
Yes, we have a supply of life jackets for the campers. You may choose to bring a life jacket from home if you would prefer; it must be a coastguard approved vest, not a puddlejumper or air-filled floaties.
